Frank Collins (72) was born to the loving parents Ernest and Dorothy on Feb 25, 1954, both of whom preceded him in death. Frank was the youngest child of the couple, baby brother to Anthony W. Fuller and sister Ernice Collins both of Detroit. As a child Frank was fun-loving and playful, making those around him laugh. His 6’4-1/2” stature often intimated those who didn’t know him, but Frank had a kind and gentle nature, unless angered. He could be your best friend if you let him. Children loved him and he loved them, often playing game with them or buying treats.

Frank begin his education by attending Alger Elementary School and later Northern High School where he fell in love with football under the guidance of Coach John Dean. He and two of his teammates sparked an article in the Detroit Times about their football playing, earning him the nickname “Big Dog” and a scholarship to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. After his father’s death, he returned home and later attended Western Michigan University. Once there he pledged Phi Beta Sigma successfully receiving his pin. Years earlier, as a legacy, he had successfully pledged for the Masons.

Because of the work ethic instilled in him by his parents as a boy, Frank often worked odd jobs. As an adult he continued that ethic which brought him opportunities in his lifetime. He held positions such as armed security guard, hospital transporter, a DJ with his best friend Jerome Perkins and a computer operator. His final job was with Ford Motor Company where he was injured on the job and was force to retire.

He leaves to grieve his passing his brother and sister; a daughter, Maika Hamlin; 2 nephews, Zedric Thomas and Zyrron Collins; 4 nieces: Kellie Perkins, Sharniece Johnson, Kianna Johnson, and Mariah McLean, and a host of family, friends, and fraternity brothers.
